A glimpse behind the scenes at the Bremgarten fish farm
The Bremgarten fish farm is a piece of living tradition. Trout and char have been bred here in Aargau since 1911 – and for around eleven years in their current, modern form. What has not changed in over 100 years is the passion for quality.
True to the motto: „There is no such thing as bad fish – only bad water.“
Spring water as the elixir of life. The heart of the farm is the spring water, which originates directly on-site. At a constant 10 to 12°C, it offers perfect conditions for trout and char – even in winter. In semi-open recirculating systems, the water is continuously renewed and used multiple times. This not only ensures a healthy environment for the fish but also a resource-efficient approach to nature.
Variety and craftsmanship. Rainbow trout, brown trout, salmon trout, and char are raised in Bremgarten. Around 30 cubic meters of spring water hold approximately 800 kg of fish. Behind this work is a well-coordinated team of about ten people who ensure care, monitoring, and processing early every morning. Every step is accompanied by extensive experience and care – from rearing to processing.
Sustainability through short distances. The Bremgarten fish farm follows Bio Suisse guidelines, even though the operation is not certified. The fish receive exclusively organically produced feed, the stocking density is well below the maximum permissible levels, and prophylactic medicines are not used. Regular cleaning ensures a natural balance without burdening the environment.
A particular advantage is the proximity to Bianchi in Zufikon: the freshly processed fish travels only a few kilometers before entering the logistics chain. From there, it is distributed directly to restaurants throughout Switzerland. This guarantees not only short transport routes but also incomparable freshness.
A small natural paradise. Here, sustainability also means creating habitats: biotopes with native shrubs, grasses, and flowers have been created on the site. They provide valuable retreats for amphibians and birds, making the Bremgarten fish farm a place where production and nature exist in harmony.
